On March 26th at Toby’s Gallery, 8:30 am, Rotary will host Past Rotary District President Robert Marshall who will share the work that Rotarians did in Ecuador which provided clean water to a much needed community facility. Our club members raise the money to work with local Rotary Clubs in the country of the project. Such international projects must be sponsored by a host Rotary Club in the country. This buy-in at the local level for projects along with the rigor with which the costs and programs are strictly monitored is what gives Rotary International’s Foundation its superb Charity Navigator rating. When we put our efforts and funds, into these international projects, The Rotary Foundation will consider matching our funds with theirs - which, as Rotarians, we raise throughout the year. Clean water is one of the key goals of the Rotary program.
Our Past President Charles Nichol participated in one of these in a hospital in Guatemala City. Bringing this system into that hospital resulted in a significant reduction in newborn mortality - which was the result of unclean water! As a result of that successful system, staff and others can bring containers to work with them and return home with clean drinking water, an added bonus to keeping the patients healthy!
The equipment that has been designed by H2O Open Doors is amazing - as it requires very rudimentary maintenance and parts can be obtained at a hardware store! It is designed to be able to serve the communities for decades to come.
Come hear Robert talk about this life-saving project in Ecuador.
